A VBAC at the Denver Center for Birth
Ashley was one of Colorado's FIRST VBACs at a free-standing birth center. The Denver Center for Birth and Wellness cared for Ashley and her family...and supported her during her beautiful and peaceful water birth. Rebecca and I do several births at the birth center each month. We love Shari, their midwife, and their entire team. I even had the honor of photographing the owner's birth in early 2016!

The Birth of baby Luna
Felicia and Sheldon invited me to photograph their second birth. I love home births for many reasons, but one of my favorites is that it allows birthing families to make their birth space entirely their own. When I walked into Felicia and Sheldon's home, I found twinkly lights, beautiful flowers, and a loving network of support surrounding Felicia. She still didn't believe she was in super active labor, but because I lived all the way in Denver (and they lived in Colorado Springs) I'd decided to drive down early just to be safe. Within just 30 minutes of my arrival, it became very apparent that Felicia WAS in active labor.

Welcome Rafael - an unplanned Cesarean birth at St. Joes in Denver
When I arrived, they were about to wheel Jenna back into the OR. They quickly threw me a pair of scrubs, and I managed to take a few images of her family saying goodbye before we headed into the Operating Room. There was some slight hesitation about allowing me back. Even though I've photographed dozens of cesarean births, most medical staff aren't immediately aware of my experience (especially when we're all rushing back to a surgery!) Thankfully, Jenna's OB was kind enough to advocate for me to come back. And so I did. And I was able to capture some of the most beautiful images for Jenna, Armando and Baby Rafael.
