The Birth of Owen at the Denver Center for Birth and Wellness

Mandy and Todd came to the Denver Center for Birth and Wellness because they wanted the birth of their first baby to be different. They wanted their baby to come into the world in a low-intervention environment (which YES! is absolutely safe for a low-risk mom and baby). They wanted a peaceful birth. They wanted to know every single person who came into their sacred birth space. They wanted something special for their first baby. 

Mandy labored beautifully when the time finally came for Owen to join the world. She relied on the support of her husband, her family, and the staff at the Denver Center for Birth. My partner, Rebecca, was there to photograph Mandy's story. She arrived as it was nearly time for Mandy to start pushing. And Mandy's determination was truly remarkable throughout the entire process. When I look at these pictures today, I'm overwhelmed with two words: strength and love. In the early morning hours, Baby Owen made his way into Mandy's arms. The joy and the relief in the room was palpable. It's no small feat to have an unmedicated birth (especially for your first baby) but Owen was also 10 pounds! Incredible!

We were so honored to capture Mandy's birth story, and we're continually blessed to have such a sweet partnership with the Denver Center for Birth and Wellness. We have several first time moms who will deliver any day now...and we can't wait to document their stories too!
